Educational Series – Cardiac troponin testing in perioperative surgery

This Educational Review discusses perioperative cardiac troponin testing for patients undergoing elective non-cardiac surgery and the risk of myocardial injury and the role of systematic high-sensitivity cardiac troponin testing to accurately detect injury and enhance risk stratification.

It also includes guiding commentary from two experts: Sydney Cardiologist Professor Clara Chow from Westmead Hospital and Academic Director of the WARC Faculty of Medicine and Health, University of Sydney, and Auckland Anaesthetist Dr Nicola Broadbent chair of the ANZCA Perioperative Medicine Steering Committee, and a clinical supervisor for the ANZCA course in Perioperative Medicine.
