Dr Omali Pitiyarachchi

Dr Omali Pitiyarachchi is a Staff Specialist Medical Oncologist at Sunshine Coast University Hospital, with clinical and research interests in gynaecological and gastrointestinal cancers. She completed medical oncology training at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse and Concord Hospital, followed by a focused gynaecological and gastrointestinal oncology fellowship at Prince of Wales Hospital, before pursuing a PhD at the Lowy Cancer Research Centre, UNSW Sydney. Her work integrates clinical, translational and patient-reported outcomes to improve prognostication, trial design and equitable access to cancer care. She is involved in international
collaborations particularly across the Asia-Pacific region focused on identifying inequities in cancer care and improving access to genomic testing, novel therapies, clinical trials and cancer medicines. She recently led a collaborative project with the Korean Society of Medical Oncology examining cancer care inequities across
the region, and contributes to ESMO-led work evaluating access to cancer medicines across the Asia-Pacific. Dr Pitiyarachchi is an alumna of the ESMO Leaders Generation Programme, an active member of GI Cancer Trials, formerly AGITG, and ANZGOG, including the Ovarian Tumour Working Group, and has been selected for
the inaugural ASCO International Clinical Research Scholars Program Asia-Pacific.
